Seniors, are you prepared?

Seniors, heads up…college is just around the corner!
Seniors, by now you have had 3 solid years of high school under your belt; it is time to look at life after high school! If you plan on attending college, we have provided a checklist of preparation materials that will ease your transition.
If you have not done some things listed below, you should plan on completing them in the near future.
*      Top Ten List. A solid list of top ten colleges that you would like to apply to. (*Use eProfiles to find them!)
*      Deadlines. Not all schools have the same deadline dates, so keep a calendar with the dates that you must send out by. Remember: the earlier you send, usually the better chance you have of getting accepted.
*      Schedule a Meeting. Meet with your TRIO Director to discuss your thoughts on where you’d like to go to college. Your TRIO Director may also be able to give you some additional advice on the college application process.
*      School Stats. If you have been in contact with schools, request information on the schools that you are interested in. This will make you better prepared to make a decision on where you would like to go.
*      ACT and/or SAT. Remember: some colleges only accept one or the other. If you haven’t taken them, it is time to get these entrance exams scheduled. If you are not happy with your scores, you should have your re-test dates already scheduled for early this fall. If not…get going on it!
*      Letters of recommendation. Make sure you scout out early the people you think would write a great recommendation. You can have teachers, coaches, TRIO directors or anyone else write this letter for you.
*      High school transcripts. Transcripts are a record of all courses and grades that you’ve accumulated over your high school years and are required by all colleges you will apply to. Talk to your guidance counselor to find out how to send them.
*      Stay organized: the more prepared you are, the less stress you’ll feel when making your final decision on where to go!
*      Financial Aid: make sure you go online and fill out your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. See the rest of our resource page for other financial aid opportunities.

Good luck!
